How Do They Work Out The NASCAR Starting Order?

All NASCAR races make use of NASCAR qualifying results to help determine the starting positions of the cars in the race. However, it is not quite as simple as that because the starting positions are not only determined by qualifying results.

Some starting positions are worked out by previous results and a team?s rank, but in general, the qualifying results have the biggest effect on the starting positions of cars in a NASCAR race.

The starting positions for the qualifying races are determined by the luck of a draw or a sequence of draws. The order of the runs is from the lowest number to the highest with higher numbers having a slight advantage because the condition of the race track changes with usage. The more it is used the faster the track becomes.

The NASCAR teams send out their cars one at a time based on the numbers that they drew in the random draw. Each car is allowed a predetermined length of track to get up to speed and as it flies over the starting line it is given a green flag to indicate that the stop watch has been started.

Each vehicle is permitted two laps to establish its speed; the faster time will be its entrance into the qualifiers for the real starting places. Drivers have different strategies for these two laps, but one common strategy is to make use of the outside lane of the track for the first lap.

This allows the sports car to travel more distance and therefore warm up more. The second lap can then be raced along the fastest lines giving a better qualifying time.

Another approach, albeit a less conventional one, is to forego the second lap because it reduces the strain on the car giving it a better chance in the final, actual race. This is a dangerous approach which not many drivers decide to undertake.

Qualifying results for NASCAR races are based exclusively on the length of time it takes to finish a lap. This clearly has to do with speed, but the actual highest speed over a short distance is not taken into account.

If there is a tie for a place, times are compared down to 0.001 (one-thousandth) of a second. If there is still a tie, then the winner is the driver with the highest number of points in the season thus far.

The media tends to report racing results in miles per hour (MPH) which is definitely tracked, but it does not determine the winner. The winner is the one with the fastest lap time, which can also be transformed into an overall speed.

Because the media give details of the results in this manner, the general public tends to believe that the car reaching the highest MPH will be the winner, but that is false or at least not the whole truth.

Sometimes the qualifying rounds have to be postponed indefinitely, most often due to very bad weather conditions, then the NASCAR qualifying positions are based on the owner?s previous amount of points.

Keep Your Electric Bicycle Running Well

One fantastic thing about ebikes is that it is very easy maintain and repair them. In fact, they’re not much more difficult to maintain than regular bicycles.

The 2nd tip is to keep your chain lubricated with a good bicycle chain lubricant. This will keep the bicycle running smoothly and efficiently and it won’t make that squeaky “old bike” noise! Just apply the lubricant to the chain and let it sit several minutes before cleaning off the excess lubricant with a rag . From time to time you will need to remove all the excess dirt that has collected on the chain. You can clean this with a degreaser. I will do a video tutorial on this soon.

Finally the last tip is to keep your tires inflated to the correct air pressure. Doing this will keep your bike running smooth and efficiently , and will protect against flats. It’s harder to pedal a bike when the tire pressure is too low. You also risk getting a pinch flat. This happens when you ride over an obstacle that causes the tube to puncture by pinching it between the tire and the rim. If the tire pressure is too high it will cause a rougher ride.

As a good guideline I suggest 50 psi for an e-bike you will use for cruising around town for an average rider weight. For a lighter rider I suggest 40-45 psi and for a heavier rider I highly recommend 55-60 psi. By using these 3 tips you can keep your e-bike running well and you will continue to have fun riding it!

Interestingly, Callahan also says that there is a sense of camaraderie among drivers of hybrids. This is a kind of intangible benefit, beyond the economic and environmental plusses of these cars. One time, she reports, she was in traffic when another Altima Hybrid driver rolled up alongside, put her window down, and gave her a thumbs up sign.

The Evolution Of The Harley

The Harley Davidson Company officially commenced with the completion of its first bike in 1903. Unofficially it all began in 1901 when 21-year-old William S. Harley drew up plans for a small engine that displaced 7.07 cubic inches and had 4-inch flywheels.

By 1903 William Harley had joined with his boyhood friend Arthur Davidson, as well as Arthur’s bro Walter. They used the machine shop of their pal Henry Melk to complete the prototype of their first engine-powered bike. The engine that powered this prototype wasn’t quite strong enough to launch the motored-bike up Milwaukee’s modest hills without the rider resorting to pedal power.

The first “real” Harley Davidson bike was eventually completed with further help from another Davidson brother named William. It had a bigger engine of 24.74 cubic inches with 9-3 / four inch flywheels weighing 28 pounds. The new bike was functional by September 08, 1904, and made its first appearance in a Milwaukee bike race.

The first Harley Davidson Motor Company factory was built in 1906 on Chestnut Street. It had been a modest forty by sixty foot single story wooden structure. Chestnut Street was later renamed Juneau Avenue, and though the first structure was replaced, this location remains the Motor Company’s company headquarters to this day. A total of fifty motorbikes were produced in 1906.

The next year, 1907 brought about much change for the fledgling company. William S. Harley graduated from the school of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in mechanical engineering. The factory was expanded and the company officially incorporated. Production increased to 150 bikes in 1907.

Success continued in the years that followed. The original factory was demolished and replaced by a new 5-story structure of fortified concrete and red brick. It soon grew to take up 2 blocks along Juneau Avenue and around the corner on 38th Street. In this period bikes produced by Harley Davidson started to dominate the bike racing arena and production reached 16,284 in 1914.

World War I saw the requirement for motorbikes in the army. Harley Davidson provided over 20,000 motorbikes to army forces during World War I. Enhancements and increased production continued after the war. The Harley Davidson Motor Company was in fact one of only 2 American cycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression. The company continued to supply machines for the army through World War Two and the Korean War. The Jeep then replaced it in appreciation.

The Harley Davidson Motor Company is still going robust today, regardless of bumps and bruises along the path. You’ll recognize it on the Stock Market under the symbol HOG.
