While growing up, I used to play all day long with my friends, and even though I wasn’t very good at football, I still liked playing it. I had a certain hour by which to be home, but other than that, nothing bothered me. After a while, I started noticing that my friends were spending more and more time indoors, instead of playing with me outside.

I wanted to know why, of course, so I started paying visits to most of them and see what they’re doing inside. To my surprise, their activities included watching TV and playing video games. I tried to get them to come outside and play some football with me, but they showed little interest.

I had to complain to someone, and my parents had to endure it, until they told me they would get me something new to play with. I told them I wanted a bike, so I wouldn’t be bored alone, outside, but they told me I was too young. They also told me they had found something better, and to be patient.

After my dad assembled it, with me helping him, and after charging it, I decided to take it out for a spin. I was so happy with my new scooter that I told all my friends what I had received.

In a couple of weeks, the entire neighborhood was back to the way I remembered it, with all of us outside, having a lot of fun with our new scooters.

Bikes are considered dangerous by a lot of overprotective parents. By not letting their child ride a bike until the age of 14, for fear of injury, they are not letting them enjoy their childhood to its fullest.
