How Do They Work Out The NASCAR Starting Order?

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

All NASCAR races make use of NASCAR qualifying results to help determine the starting positions of the cars in the race. However, it is not quite as simple as that because the starting positions are not only determined by qualifying results.

Some starting positions are worked out by previous results and a team?s rank, but in general, the qualifying results have the biggest effect on the starting positions of cars in a NASCAR race.

The starting positions for the qualifying races are determined by the luck of a draw or a sequence of draws. The order of the runs is from the lowest number to the highest with higher numbers having a slight advantage because the condition of the race track changes with usage. The more it is used the faster the track becomes.

The NASCAR teams send out their cars one at a time based on the numbers that they drew in the random draw. Each car is allowed a predetermined length of track to get up to speed and as it flies over the starting line it is given a green flag to indicate that the stop watch has been started.

Each vehicle is permitted two laps to establish its speed; the faster time will be its entrance into the qualifiers for the real starting places. Drivers have different strategies for these two laps, but one common strategy is to make use of the outside lane of the track for the first lap.

This allows the sports car to travel more distance and therefore warm up more. The second lap can then be raced along the fastest lines giving a better qualifying time.

Another approach, albeit a less conventional one, is to forego the second lap because it reduces the strain on the car giving it a better chance in the final, actual race. This is a dangerous approach which not many drivers decide to undertake.

Qualifying results for NASCAR races are based exclusively on the length of time it takes to finish a lap. This clearly has to do with speed, but the actual highest speed over a short distance is not taken into account.

If there is a tie for a place, times are compared down to 0.001 (one-thousandth) of a second. If there is still a tie, then the winner is the driver with the highest number of points in the season thus far.

The media tends to report racing results in miles per hour (MPH) which is definitely tracked, but it does not determine the winner. The winner is the one with the fastest lap time, which can also be transformed into an overall speed.

Because the media give details of the results in this manner, the general public tends to believe that the car reaching the highest MPH will be the winner, but that is false or at least not the whole truth.

Sometimes the qualifying rounds have to be postponed indefinitely, most often due to very bad weather conditions, then the NASCAR qualifying positions are based on the owner?s previous amount of points.

A Fun Hobby Can Be Found With Die Cast Car Model Collecting

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

Did you always love those little cars when you were growing up? Do you still find that you have a soft spot in your heart for them? If that is the case, you might want to consider getting into the hobby of die cast car model collecting. Remember, it is not just for kids but also for those who still happen to be a kid at heart.

This is not only a good hobby but die cast car model collecting is a wonderful way for people who love cars to own a mini version of their favorite cars. It may not be the real thing but how fun would it be to display your wish list of great cars? This hobby by the way is split into two different categories. One is the die cast models and the model kits.

This hobby also is extremely easy to start. You can easily begin your collection by getting some Hot Wheels and or Matchbox die casts and you are pretty much ready to start. A lot of people who have gotten into this hobby not only have a lot of fun collecting but have also discovered that their hobby can also turn into a nice little business venture as well.

These cars come in many different sizes that are scaled down for size, it is important that you consider what size you would prefer and try to stick with that size. The sizes can range from 1:25 in size to 1:87 in scale size. The most common and most popular for most is the 1:43 scale. There is the largest variety of cars to choose from in this size and that is probably why it is the most popular with collectors.

You will also discover that there are a lot of great people out there that collect these cars as well. Generally this hobby generates a vast variety of collector communities filled with a lot of very friendly people whom you may even have a chance at getting to know on a personal level. This in the end can even help you find some rare models that you might also be looking for to add to your collection.

This type of hobby began shortly after the end of World War II and were first made out of wood. Soon after that in England, the first plastic model was released to the public. This was the Ford Roadster, year 1932. Soon after that, car manufacturers came up with the idea of producing 1:25 scale models out of metal. They used these to promote their new cars by sending them out to all their dealers. This led to the dealers to start trading with one another. This began in the 50s and went into the 60s when the public began to pick up on the hobby for themselves.

Today you can find those that collect these cars auctioning off some of their rare models for several thousand dollars and the most popular of those would be the NASCAR ones. However; probably the most important thing about the hobby is to collect just the types of cars and vehicles that you truly like. Only collect the ones that you really love. Also, it is not advisable to stick to just one certain type either. It is better for your collection to have a lot of different types especially if you are thinking about trying to make money off of your hobby.

Flea markets, hard to believe, are probably one of the better places to find great little cars. Another good place would be through eBay and special car collecting forums online. However; there are some people who still look for them in toy stores and some stores that sell toys. Collector shops though are a better place than the toy stores and other stores.

No matter what you like and Die cast cars you want to collect, if you stick with the hobby, not only will you discover how much fun it can be, but eventually you might end up with a collection that is worth a lot more money than the money you actually put into it.

How To Maintain A Motorcycle During Cold Weather

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

What will be in the last fall season? Motorcyclists will consider this season is good start to have great challenge for upcoming season of winter. It is time when the weather gets cooler and the roads are full of snows which make the motorcyclist hard to ride theirs on road.

In spite of these facts, the winter also brings good news for them to encounter promising challenge in riding motor. For making sure the motor in good condition and ready to enter winter season. Some small designs should be done with the use of proper supplies and tools.

So, what should be prepared for renovating the motor? These are cleaning kits, spark plugs, chain lube, gloves, fuel stabilizer, spark plug wrench and cloths.

For your motor treatment, these things should be there. Mild detergent is required in cleaning the motor for preventing corrosion while cleaned. The road should be cleaned from any dirt and insects. Use chamois as well for cleaning and drying the motor.

How to clean the chain? The WD-40 can be used for it. The fuel stabilizer is also necessary since the motor will be not in use for several days.

The fuel stabilizer is effective to guard the machine from built up of sludge which can endanger the balance of engine. Always warm up the engine every time it goes with some treatment.

What’s more, before changing the oil filter and oil, the engine should be warmed up. The spark plugs also should be changed elsewhere to support fine tune up. Just take a look at the battery. If you do not use it at this time, just change it with the battery charger for safer use.

The low temperature will always lead the engine into inactive position. With the battery charger, it can be solved out. When your motorcycle is not being used, it is better to store it at room where the temperature is stabile for preventing worse engine which may happen.

Triumph Rocket 3 Experience

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

Over the past 15 years, I have been lucky enough to own a number of latter-day Triumphs. With the prospect of a motorcycling tour of Europe, I rashly decided to buy the bike I have been promising myself for the past few years, a Triumph Rocket Three.

My “Classic” model looks great in blue and aluminium silver, together with a number of extras that I added to turn this bike into a proper touring machine.

I had never ridden any type of cruiser before, the and found the high bars and feet forward position a little difficult to get used to at first, but the sculpted fuel tank means that one’s knees are not forced wide apart, and after a few miles I found the whole set up very comfortable.

I had opted for a touring seat with riders back pad. The seat is wired and comfortable and the back pad means that when one opens the throttle on this 2.3 L beast one is carried along with the bike, rather than having to hold on tightly to the handlebars. This is great for someone like myself in late middle age!

Probably due to the weight of the bike, there is no centre stand but the side stand these more than sufficient. However, I have nearly dropped the bike a couple of times when pushing it forward with the side stand down, (usually a petrol pumps to allow somebody else to refuel). The side stand protrudes quite a long way, and it is very easy to trip over, so one has to be very careful.

The Rocket Three is easy to ride on the open road, with a fantastic 2.3 L power plant backed up with superb brakes. It is perhaps due to the sheer weight of the bike that even in storm conditions it is stable and feels completely in touch with the road at all times. The only area where it falls down is on mountain roads, but this is something of an unfair criticism given that it is not built for this type of road.

Above all else this bike attracts attention wherever it goes, so if you buy one be prepared to be the centre of attention!

Zac likes to take off riding on his collection of bikes. However, he also understands the importance of protecting them correctly when he’s not riding the world. For protection, he uses Harley Davidson motorcycle coversfor maximum protection. Visit www.harleydavidsonmotorcyclecovers.org.
