Women Bikers Cause Rise In Motorcycle Accidents

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

You may be shocked to discover that almost 20% of motorcyclists are women. This figure is set to increase as last year 10,500 women took their motorcycle training practical test and are now fully legal to travel the length and breadth of Britain.

Women are taking up the form of transport mostly for financial reasons. As the cost of fuel continues to rise more women are encouraged to swap their cars for just two wheels in an effort to save money. 14% of women questioned by the Post Office said that they would consider riding a motorbike to save cash. Motorcycles are also a great way to beat congestion and traffic jams on the way to work, and make way for a greener planet.

The rise in female riders has led to speculation that they are to blame for the rising number of motorcycle accidents, which is up 30% in the last 10 years. They are more likely to be inexperienced by their male counterparts and their bodies less sustainable to injury. The rise of women motorcyclists of course causes a correlation with the amount of women involved in accidents; however, it is a mistake to believe they are the cause for a rise in accidents in general.

Research has shown that, on average, women riders are safer than male motorcyclists with fewer women involved in motorbike accidents proportionately. Furthermore, while men are often reluctant to take up further training after passing their motorcycle test, women demonstrate a greater interest in advanced rider development training after they have obtained their license. Currently, men are 7 times more likely make a journey on their motorbike, but are involved in 15 times more accidents than women.

Police and road safety campaigners are in fact targeting born-again bikers as the perceived cause of increased accidents in a 10 year road safety campaign. These men, usually in their 30s and 40s, return to motorcycling after a long period of not holding a license. This means they are inexperienced, as well as not being used to today’s powerful bikes and the increase of vehicles on the road. Police are warning the men to slow down and drive more carefully.

ATV Accidents And Personal Injury

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

Driving all-terrain vehicles, which are often referred to as simply “ATVs,” can be an enjoyable pastime. These vehicles are commonly used for recreational purposes, and are designed to be used under off-road conditions and on rough terrain. Although driving these vehicles can be a lot of fun, they also present the opportunity for accidents. Unfortunately, because of the “rough and tumble” nature of driving an ATV, accidents when they do occur can be quite serious. Although in some cases the end result of an ATV accident is simply some scrapes, bruises and possibly a bad case of “road rash,” in other cases serious injuries can result. Especially if the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, there is a chance that head injuries, concussions or even serious brain injuries could occur. Broken bones and sprains are common accident outcomes, and unfortunately even spinal cord injuries can result.

What Can Cause an ATV Accident?

There are many different reasons why ATV’s end up in accidents. Sometimes the accident occurs just because of the rough terrain, other times the weather can be a factor. People enjoy driving their ATV’s in areas which have gravel, mud, and steep slopes, so these can be a contributing factor. Unfortunately, the recreation part of the equation often involves speeding, drug or alcohol use. When you are out with your friends, another ATV might be involved. Sometimes ATV’s are driven on paved roads, which leads to accidents involving other motor vehicles. There is even the possibility that there is some mechanical failure which can cause the accident, such as the brakes failing.

What to Do If You Are Involved in an ATV Accident

If the unfortunate circumstance happens and you end up being part of an ATV accident, the primary thing to attend to is your own safety and the safety of others. Place yourself in a safe and sheltered place if you can, and call for medical help if necessary. It is best to try to take note of the details of the accident while it is still fresh. As with all other motor vehicle accidents, make sure that you get a name and insurance company information if there is anyone else involved, whether it is off-road or on pavement. All of this information will be very helpful when it is time to contact a Sacramento ATV accident attorney.

When You Contact An Attorney

If you are in an ATV accident, the recovery process can be slow and painful, particularly if you were seriously injured. Sometimes you might not be able to return to work, or you might end up with permanent disabilities. Often times you will need a Sacramento ATV accident attorney to help you receive the compensation that you deserve. An attorney is well-equipped to help you to recover from the accident in many ways: not just financially, but emotionally and physically as well.

If you’re looking for a great Sacramento personal injury lawyer then you should call Clancey, Doyle and O’Donnell at 1-800-632-5529. They’re super helpful and are a great Sacramento auto accident lawyer firm.

Hybrid Cars As The Response To The Rising Price Of Petroleum

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

All commuters have felt the pinch at the pump, as gas prices rise higher and higher. More of these commuters are looking for ways to stretch their fuel dollars, including considering hybrid cars. A hybrid car combines the traditional gas engine with an electric motor and a Lithium ion battery.

One such commuter is Emily Callahan. Callahan, a 24-year-old landscape architect, choose the hybrid Nissan Altima for her first car back in 2007. She was one of the first purchasers of this model, a mid-sized sedan released in January of that same year.

Why did Callahan choose a hybrid? A number of factors, including fuel efficiency, environmental impact, size, and tax incentives encouraged her decision. She got a nice sized tax increase because, as one of the first consumers to purchase a hybrid, she got back $2300 (the full sales tax on the car).

Hybrids have more going for them than just tax breaks of course. Because of very high fuel costs recently, hybrids also save on gas. Callahan told us that the Altima Hybrid gets an average of 36 miles per gallon, and t his adds up to some real savings.

Ms. Callahan has seen her fuel dollar go further as a result. She has a friend who drives the traditional 2007 Nissan Altima. Her friend spends an average of $100 per week on her one hour commute, while Callahan spends only $75 for her commute of equal length.

Callahan says she’ll never go back to a traditional vehicle. She points out that not only does she save money, but the hybrid car has no carbon emissions to harm the atmosphere.

Interestingly, Callahan also says that there is a sense of camaraderie among drivers of hybrids. This is a kind of intangible benefit, beyond the economic and environmental plusses of these cars. One time, she reports, she was in traffic when another Altima Hybrid driver rolled up alongside, put her window down, and gave her a thumbs up sign.

Hybrids offer many advantages. Check your favorite car manufacturer – most of them are joining the hybrid bandwagon. You can now find a range of vehicles, from compacts to SUVs, from Saturn or Ford or Toyota, or Honda or Lexus, all with hybrid technology.

Besides economy, the writer additionally frequently shares writing about shiatsu massagers and ht 7450 Zero Gravity massage chair.

Lost In France On A Rocket 3

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

This was the third day of our 12 day motorcycle trip from London to Santander, Spain.

The previous two days had taken us from London to leMans in France, then from leMans to Montlucon where we had just spent the night.

The weather had been glorious so far, but today the sky was grey and there was an orange weather warning for our part of France. We were heading out from Montlucon to Millau, made famous by the spectacular bridge and were taking the dual carriageway for some 100 miles before turning off into the Massif for our first taste of mountain riding.

All eight of us were experienced bike riders, but we were all a little concerned at the weather forecast. As I had only ridden 335 dry miles on my Triumph Rocket 3 before leaving England, I was perhaps quietly the most apprehensive of all of us!

The Rocket had been great fun so far. It’s so big one can move around not just in the saddle, but also the foot boards mean that you can move your feet around too, so cramp and general stiffness was not a problem. I had also had the rider’s backrest fitted, which made it even more comfortable.

In recent times I have to confess to being a mostly “fair weather rider”, and when it started raining after about fifteen minutes of leaving the hotel, I found that the summer screen I had had fitted was no match for the rain, and the fact that I could hardly see out from behind my rain streaked visor took some adjustment. It seemed that no one was prepared to appear to be phased by the weather, so we continued on the dual carriageway at some speed, until stopping for fuel and a coffee after about an hour and a half.

Before leaving for this trip, I knew my trousers were water proof, thought my jacket was waterproof, and thought my boots were also waterproof. I was right about the trousers!

Even though I was uncomfortable and wet to the skin, the bike just seemed to shrug the whole thing off. It is so heavy it just remains stable and is completely unmoved by the fact that you are trying to ride in a river! The power delivery is such that it is completley laid back, and one can simply put in the power gently and maintain smooth riding.

The heated grips now came into their own. I had had these fitted before I left England, and their lowest setting was great for wet hands!

Just before hitting Millau, we had planned to take a ride around a gorge. Before venturing up and then down into it we stopped for a bite to eat. As we did, a massive thunderstorm struck, so we waited for it to pass!

As we climbed back onto our bikes after eating, the sun decided to make an appearance and the temperature rose back into the high twenties. My own temperature was about to get higher too, once I got into the mountain roads and the sharp bends1

Some Basic Tips On How To Buy Used Cars Australia

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

If you are aiming to visit Australia for more than a few months it may well be more cost-effective for you to purchase a used car in order to get around. However, when you buy a used car this might be a little bit more complicated than you may expect due to the different laws that govern purchases within each state. However, on the flipside you are not going to require permanent residency or an Australian drivers license to get a used car. As long as you have a drivers license back home way you live and are over 18 years old then you are eligible. Consider these tips on how you can buy used cars Australia.

The first step that you have to take along this road is to find some suitable vehicles that you may want to purchase. You will have the option of looking at auctions, dealerships, and also from private sellers.

The market for purchasing used cars in Australia is a fairly large one, and this is down to the fact that it is such a popular backpacking country. As such, your best bet might well be dealerships that have been specifically set up for the purpose of selling vehicles to backpackers. You may even be able to find dealerships that will purchase the vehicle back from you from a slightly lower value when you are done with it.

Always make sure that you check the REV, or Registry for encumbered vehicles on any vehicle that you are intending to purchase. This will inform you about some very important details you have to know about the car and its previous owner. You will find out if there are any outstanding debts on the vehicle and whether it has been stolen. If you do purchase a stolen vehicle you may well be subject to arrest.

If you are not a mechanic or automobile expert then it is a good idea for you to also get any car checked out properly before you actually buy it. Take it to a local mechanic and get them to check it over. This will help you to determine whether or not there are any hidden problems with the vehicle that you are not able to identify at first glance yourself.

It may also be a good option to purchase the vehicle within the state that you may want to sell it on in. You will need to get any vehicle that you buy registered and if you can do this in a specific state and then sell it on in that same state, the process will certainly be a lot easier.

Always make sure that you get the necessary paperwork that you need before you drive off with your used vehicle. You should get the title deeds and the registration from the owner and ensure that their name is on it.

It is important for you to visit a local motor Registry within two weeks of actually buying the vehicle. Bring along two forms of ID, proof of purchase, and money for the transfer fee and stamp duty. Once you have done this your purchase will be officially complete.

Taking In The Colors Of The Season When Motorcycle Touring In The Fall

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

Chances are, that if you are out driving in your car during the fall months, you may have noticed an increased number of motorcycles on the road. This is because many people consider motorcycle touring in the fall to be one of the best times to ride motorcycles. This is true for several reasons. One, is the fall colors from all the leaves changing, cooler temps and even the smell of Autumn.

No matter where you’re planning on taking your trip, motorcycle touring through the countryside is not only a great way to see the sights, it’s also an excellent way to perhaps save a bit in gas, while you’re doing it. Adventure can come in many forms, when you’re out riding during fall. When driving a car, you just can’t experience Fall it the same way.

During the fall, as you’re traveling down the winding roads, you’re sure to see all kinds of amazing colors passing you on each side. This is a time of year, like no other. The stunning beauty of trees that have spent months, up until this point, being shades of green, are now capable of taking ones breath away with the varying golds, reds, yellows, and purples mixing together to create this collage of earthly magnificence.

Fall is the time when sweaters, long pants, leather chaps and leather jackets are utilized to their fullest. The weather is getting cooler and warmer clothes are in order. When motorcycle touring during this season, warmth becomes somewhat of a greater issue, due to the increased cold wind you will undoubtedly feel rushing across your body. A leather jacket with a warm insulated lining might be just the thing to keep you nice and toasty on your journey.

Being prepared to stay warm, while out and about, is of great importance during this time of year. It may not be as cold as it is during the winter months, but if you’re not dressed properly, you could still end up feeling like a popsicle by the time you get to your first stop. There are scarves and hats available to help keep yourself warm as well. When you know you’re riding in much cooler weather, depending on your local climate, be sure to add extra layers even underneath an already insulated leather jacket.

Sometimes it’s not easy for cars and other vehicles to see motorcycles on the road, so it’s always a good idea to be alert and drive defensively. Being aware of the colorful surroundings off the road, can be an extremely pleasant experience, but be sure to never loose track of the road ahead.

If you’re planning on motorcycle touring in the fall, you’re most likely in for an exhilarating adventure. Your senses are in for a treat, if nothing else. Some say while touring in autumn, it’s almost as if you can smell the colors that surround you. No matter how chilly it may be on the outside, along with leather jackets, leather chaps and extra layers, you will find the beauty of this season enough to keep you warm.

LeMans To Montlucon By Motorbike

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

Having left London, England the day before in glorious sunshine, we had continued our motorcycle tour of France, Andorra and Spain in similar weather, and now on the second day we were pushing further south to the town of Montlucon.

The previous day had been spent mostly on motorways to cut through as much as northern France as possible to keep the 2,200 mile trip down to 10 days, and give ourselves more time in the more picturesque southern region, the Pyrenees and Spain. However, today was to be a combination of motorway and country roads, and I was excited to find out how my Triumph Rocket 3 performed on more twisty roads.

The only problem with the Rocket was all its chrome and polished parts. This was my first cruiser, (at 50 years old I am no longer comfortable on anything else!), and the grey sky and wet roads I saw through my hotel room window were disappointing! I guess age has turned me into a “fair weather rider”.

Having emerged from the hotel underground car park, I waited outside for my 7 fellow riders to emerge. As I waited, I watched as a dead body was wheeled out to a waiting ambulance from one of the close by flats. I told myself to take care on the road.

As we headed through town, the roads were drying out nicely and the cloud looked like it was clearing, which I personally found reassuring, and soon we were out heading for that famous piece of race track, the 3.7 mile Mulsanne straight, or Ligne Droite des Hunaudires to give it its French name.

The whole track is comprised by mostly public roads. In fact the straight itself seems nothing more than a fairly wide public road, the only thing that marks it out as a race track is the Armco barrier that lines the roadside.

Having stopped for fuel, we then headed for Richelieu, hometown of the Cardinal of “The Three Musketeers” fame. Whilst the book is a work of fiction, Cardinal Richelieu is not; indeed he became Prime Minister of France in 1624.

The town is very picturesque, built inside a square with boundary walls and straight roads inside, leading to a massive square at one end, where we stopped for lunch.

By this time the sun had decided to make an appearance, and the temperature was around 25 degrees, which made riding pleasant.

The Rocket had been a joy to ride even through the country lanes. It is by no means a “knee down” bike, and indeed you will get caught out if you try to ride it that way. The secret seems to be to push hard on the straights, but to carefully study the road ahead paying particular attention to vanishing points and setting it up before entry into bends.

The massive rear tyre does squirrel around on uneven surfaces, being so wide it is subject to severe tracking in any ruts in the road, but you soon get used to this and gently leaning the bike over and letting it do its own thing inspires confidence.

Eventually arriving at our hotel in Montlucon in the evening, we were disappointed to find the town virtually closed, so sampling the local food and wine wasn’t possible.

But an “orange” weather warning had been put out by the French government for the next day, when the roads would be more “interesting”.

Despite the fact that he was riding his Triumph for this tour, Zac also rides a Harley Davidson, which he stores using Harley Davidson motorcycle covers. These covers are of fantastic quality, and cosset the bike when stored. Visitwww.harleydavidsonmotorcyclecovers.net.

Taking Out Motorbike Insurance Is A Necessity And Not A Luxury

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

One of the happiest moments in life is when you have a motorcycle of your own. You will feel great when you drive on a motorcycle though some people say that driving on the motorcycle lead to your death.

It is true that motorbikes can cause accidents, but as long as you are riding it carefully there is no problem and you can enjoy a long life. Reckless driving is the cause of most accidents.

Bike insurance is compulsory to a person who rides a motorbike in UK. You cannot estimate when the accident will happen so you need to have insurance for your safety. Even if you don’t met with an accident, your motorcycle may get stolen.

These days a lot of insurance companies have a variety of insurance products to offer motorcyclists. The basic level of coverage is referred to as “fire and theft, third party”. As indicated by the name, this type of coverage insures the motorcycle against theft, fire damage, and it covers any damage that occurs to the property of a third party. At the opposite end of the spectrum is fully comprehensive cover. This type of coverage is costly, but it offers the highest amount of protection.

Whatever insurance scheme you choose for your motorcycle several measures can be taken to keep the cost of the cover less and if you have not purchased your motorcycle yet then the ball is in your court. If it is the case, the very first thing is that you should acknowledge the bikes that are of high performance. These bikes are very fast machines and the insurance companies identify them as very risky liabilities. If you are going to purchase a bike for the first time then you should choose a small machine as the bike insurance is going to cost you less in this case.

In the UK motorbike theft is so usual and because of this, insurance companies charge more for the coverage. So you must find a secure place to store your bike when not in use. If the insurance company is satisfied that the storage place is secure they will lessen the rates for the insurance coverage.

An asset like a motorbike is indeed very costly and riding it is dangerous too. Therefore when purchasing a motorbike, with the price concept on one hand, one should look for insurance policy which is affordable and provides proper coverage for you.
