Shopping For Your First Used Motorcycle

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

When it comes to buying a used motorcycle you have a ton of options as far as where to find them goes. Traditionally when you wanted to buy a used motorcycle you would head down to your local dealership and choose from the selection they had. You might also look through the paper to see if you could find any there. These two options are no longer your only options.

As you know, you don’t have to look in the paper ads for used motorcycles anymore, or at the local dealership in your town. You can find just about any make and model you want if you go online. However you find the one you want to buy, the steps for purchasing one are still pretty much universal and you should be aware of some important tips.

Information is to the key to success. I think this is a universal truth that can be applied to just about any situation. If you gather as much information about a used motorcycle as you can, you’re more likely to have a successful purchase experience.

Arranging to see the motorcycle in person should not be an issue, but if it is, then you should think about looking elsewhere. Not making an attempt to show you the motorcycle is a sure sign of a bad sale to come so be wary of this.

The visual inspection will probably determine whether or not you are going to get the motorcycle or not, along with the price of course. Request to take it for a test drive to see how it actually runs and feels on the road.

If everything looks good on paper and you’ve determine that the motorcycle looks good and rides nice, then you could go one step further and have it inspected by a mechanic of your choice. This would help bring up any issues that may not have been so apparent in your initial inspection.

If you’re excited about buying a used motorcycle, then you’ll really be excited if this is the first time you’re buying one. Make sure you experience doesn’t go poorly by preparing the best you can for the possible sale.

With A Good Car Amplifier Your Car Journeys Are A Pleasure

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

In our modern lives cars are vital. We all use them for a range of purposes both social, work and pleasure although with the amount of traffic on the roads the pleasure can seem a bit of a dream. One surprisingly large group who are often forgotten about are the car enthusiasts who still love cars and everything to do with them.

But thanks to the constant advances in electronic technology and the steady decrease in size of all the parts it gradually became possible to fit better sound systems in your car.

The earliest in car sound systems most of us can remember was the good old 8-track cassette. It was very popular and manufacturers realised there was a market to exploit so they dedicated time and money to research, finishing up with the car amplifier and outstanding sound quality.

The purpose of car amplifiers is to provide power to your in car speakers. What you hear is great music with clarity and lack of distortion even when it’s loud. To keep life simple the makers have each speaker powered by one amplifier. In theory you could have many channels but the most popular is the 4-channel amplifier.

There are many makers in the market and thanks to them competing with each other the prices are competitive. With a variable design between the manufacturers and differences in crossovers, cooling systems and input/outputs you end up with a series of efficient amplifiers. With well recognised companies such as Panasonic, Thunder, Sony, Kicker and Alpine you won’t struggle for a great in car sound experience.

The trouble with choice of course is it can be tricky to reach a final decision. A good starting point is to go for a smaller amplifier that doesn’t take over your car. Pioneer, which as you know is a leading light in the whole electronic area produces a great amplifier called class D. Despite it’s small size the quality of sound is excellent.

With their small, tidy design they are a breeze to set up in your car. They boast a first-rate range of frequency response from 10 – 35000 Hertz, the S/N ratio is greater than 95 decibels and you get four channels with a maximum power input of 150 W at 4 ohms. With this great model in your vehicle you’ll impress folks and certainly turn heads. The sound quality is exceptional.

It truly is a great instant to be getting a stereo system for your car with a number of brilliant offers and superb sound quality well within your reach.

Custom Motorcycle Parts: Making The Correct Decisions

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

My Dad has a passion. Motorbikes are his passion. He loves fiddling around with them while he is in his garage. In fact, I bet he spends the majority of his time there messing around with custom motorcycle parts trying to get them to fit on a new bike.

My first memory of my Dad is of us both working in the garage. He would be working on one of his bikes and I would be there trying to copy him. I would take one of his custom motorcycle parts and try and fit it to my pedal bike. I can’t remember how old I was but I must have been around 4 years old.

I have to admit that I got into bikes because of my dad and I did it at an early age. That is not the only way that people do get into fixing bikes. One of my friends decided he wanted a project for the summer. Having been to the cinema to watch The Motorcycle Diaries he got some inspiration.

My friend thought that he would get a bargain by buying it on Ebay. Yes he got one cheap but it was cheap for a reason. It didn’t work! We think back now about how funny it was and the look on his face when it arrived. He didn’t let it put him off; he just decided he would do the bike up.

Throughout the summer my mate spent time working on his bike. He bought lots of custom motorcycle parts to try to get the thing working again. It takes some guts taking on a project that big. He didn’t know anything about bikes to begin with but he became quite knowledgeable. I think that most importantly he enjoyed it all.

My friend finished his project on the advice from a mechanic. He went for advice about which custom motorcycle parts would enable it to work. The mechanic told him that it was no use as the bike wouldn’t function anymore.

My Triumph Rocket 3

Published by Guest Author under Motorcycles

Now I’ve reached the slightly worrying age of fifty, I’ve decided that I no longer “fit” on bikes of the more sporty variety, so I had to decide recently what sort of machine I wanted to replace my Blackbird.

Aching wrists and a stomach that is too big meant that I needed something rather different. I decided what I needed was a dedicated touring machine, a BMW1200RT to be precise.

I have had a couple of BMWs in the past, and always liked the flat twin engine, albeit that it was a little slow. However, I was very unimpressed with the dealer I visited, so left the showroom empty handed.

I had to think again, and having owned a number of modern day Triumphs, I went for a look at my local dealer.

Walking into the showroom I was immediately struck by the Rocket 3.

Sitting astride the demonstrator on the forecourt outside, I felt like someone who had never ridden a bike before. Instead of crouching over the tank, my hands on the grips felt like I was worshipping some distant god in the sky.

I turned the key in the ignition, pulled in the clutch and pushed the starter button. OK. Perhaps a little noisier than my previous Triumphs, but not much, and with that familiar triple beat and slight whine, common throughout the range, I suddenly felt at home.

However, this was all in the mind, and as I slipped the clutch, keeping the engine of tick over, it gently rolled forward.

There was no drama as I added some throttle, just a touch. This bike lets you do what you want to do, not what you feel you have to do to keep it happy!

I decided to manoeuvre around the three long lines of parked bikes on display to find out how the bike handles at slow speed. The balance is fantastic, given that you have to physically turn the handlebars at low speed rather than just “push and lean”, you worry that the thing is going to topple over.

However, finding the “tipping point” (excuse the pun), where leaning take over from turning the bars does not take long to master, and if one just relaxes, the bike itself makes it clear, as the balance is amazing for such a huge machine.

One of the options I chose was the rider’s backrest. This works like a sissy bar, but is halfway along the saddle. I’m glad I did, because the power and peak torque both come in at very low revs, so whilst it’s very happy moving at low speeds, open the throttle just a fraction and everything becomes a blur.

At high speeds the bike feels very planted, and cornering is remarkable for such a big machine.

On rough roads the back moves around a little, the enormous rear tyre perhaps more influenced than most by variations in road surface, but this is soon got used to.

Brakes cope comfortably with the weight and have plenty of feel.

In fact, the Rocket 3 is the most fun I have ever had in over 45 years of motorcycling!

Zac loves nothing more than maintaining his pool of bikes. He knows the importance of having the right tools for the job, including storage, for which he uses genuine Harley Davidson motorcycle covers. Visit his latest site at harleydavidsonmotorcyclecovers.net.

You car or SUV comes equipped with an OEM air box with limited potential. With an air intake you deliver more, colder air into your engine, maximizing the power of your vehicle and efficiency. Plus, they will make your ride look cool when looking under the hood, and will growl like you never heard before.

Performance Claims – I have read some fairly aggressive claims about cold air intake systems on the internet regarding the increase in horsepower and gas mileage. When considering a cold air intake system for your truck or car be aware your results will vary depending on your make and model of vehicle, personal driving habits, load on the engine (hauling or towing for example) and the existing air system restriction. If you are person who drives there vehicle “hard” because of increased horsepower after installing a cold air intake system you probably want see any increase in gas mileage. A 5% to 10% increase in horsepower is typical after installing a cold air intake system. I recommend you search for unbiased testimonials on the internet regarding horsepower and gas mileage performance increases regarding cold air intake systems before you purchase.

Cost and Maintenance – Prices of Cold Air Intake Systems range anywhere from $200.00 to $500.00 dollars and components vary with each manufacture. One feature they seem to all have in common is the intake air filter element is reusable and mostly likely will last you for as long as you own the vehicle. To clean the K&N filter in my truck, I simply use a mild detergent, rinse it out thoroughly and re-oil according to the manufacture. No sweat!
